My favourite Restaurants

The restaurant at the hotel where you stay will undoubtedly be great, I’m sure. But you might want to explore—tastewise—more than that. The following establishments provide excellent food and offer more local fare than a hotel restaurant.

Kleiner Friedrich1  Brot und Rosen

The best Italian restaurant in the city. The portions of the main dishes are often rather small and expensive, however. If you love pizza, the best is con melanzane. The ambience is comfy and authentic, with paper tablecloths, wooden floors, and Italian waitresses. This is where the locals go. This restaurant is often booked up, so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time. Adress: Am Friedrichshain 6, 10407 Berlin

Kleiner Friedrich1  Zur letzten Instanz

This is the oldest restaurant in Berlin, with excellent, genuine German food (e.g. Schnitzel, Sauerkraut or Kohlroulade) in a homey atmosphere.  Adress: Waisenstraße 14-16, 10179 Berlin

Kleiner Friedrich1  Reinhardts

Inside you will see a style from the 1920s, and in the summer there is an excellent beer garden outside. They offer a menu in English, and some waiters speak very good English. They have local specialties, and the onion soup is amazing. Poststraße 28, 10178 Berlin

Kleiner Friedrich1  Sophieneck

Truly an establishment with German style. Also, the food is very local - excellent Schnitzel and genuine Landmann-beer. The menu is in English, and the service is fast. Sometimes quite a few tourists gather here. website in english

Kleiner Friedrich1  Borchardts

Close to the Gendarmenmarket, this is where half of the foreign ministry goes to have lunch. This busy place offers tasty and innovative dishes. Sometimes you might find that the waiters are overwhelmed with the number of patrons who obviously love the place. website in english

Kleiner Friedrich1  Thüringer Stuben

I have never seen a tourist here. It is a rather out-of-the-way place, where they serve outstanding dishes from Thuringia, a state in Germany. Also the ambience is very much an old-fashioned style. All of the dishes are quite tasty. In any way - take a dish which includes Klöße. Adress: Stargarder Straße 28, 10437 Berlin
